Solitary

Solitary
An enigma,
An illness,
A decision,
A hole.

Another question mark.
Another lost soul…

It’s hard to recognize someone
that no one knows
Difficult, to see,
what someone never shows
A lost face,
beneath a mask
A happier place,
inside a flask
A positive outlook,
an impossible task
So many questions,
you can’t find to ask

When a mind struggles, alone,
A brain storm, of their own
Swept up in in an instant
Where it’s dark and it’s distant
A solitary place,
they might go
Where every sky
must bring snow
Left with answers
that no one will know

It’s hard to comprehend something

that no one understands
Difficult, to grasp something,
when it’s out of your hands
A mystery,
wrapped up in a mind
A history
they drag behind
An act,
selfishly unkind
Too many reasons,
that are impossible to find

When a life ends, alone,

A sad choice, on their own
A final decision that’s made
When they are despondent or afraid
Solitary tears,
sliding down the drain
Cold and confounding,
like a January rain
Leaving little more,
than questions and pain

It’s hard to be sad

for someone who is gone
Difficult, now, for those
obliged to move on
An opened investigation
A closed case
A stark image,
they can’t replace
A terrible memory,
they can’t erase
A huge void,
with just a face

As I sit here, today, alone,

contemplating life, not just my own
I worry, about all that is to be,
What I may not understand, or see
The solitary angst,
my someones can’t bare
Changes in the seasons
When
there’s something in the air
The questions and answers,
we just have to share

I give my resolute vow…
I will be far more aware.
I will be here.
I will be there.

Setback

The long and straight road
 just around this curve
The hard-earned happiness
that we all deserve…

Just when we felt ready

for our lives to improve
The rug is pulled out
weeks from our move
Naïve to true character
 the greed of this clown
Did not see it coming
and he took us down

Worse because of our wait
until the timing was right
Patience and compromise
and our goal was in sight
We lost what we found
in the blink of an eye
Contractual loop-hole
the worst reason why

Unethical and unchristian
in every last way
A faith that escapes me
 with no place to stay
Hard to understand
decency so easily lost
Unconcerned about effects
or the considerable cost

Anger and resentment
attached to this news
Struggling with my will
and the retribution blues
Sleepless once again
from selfish lack of reason
Leaving a family homeless
during the coldest season

Seasons change…

Battling these elements
we are not alone
The reason of others
has calmed my tone
Strength in our number
at the end of this rope
The warmth of words
is a blanket of hope

The comfort of friends
reassuring calm voices
Easing our urgency
by revealing our choices
Strength in our situation
a position of power
Snapped back to reality
like the coldest shower

It is just a matter of time
not too far away
The stars will align
and peace will come our way
Spiritual, solely because
we’ve reached from within
Recovered our dignity
despite their sin

The weight of the world
but it’s just one more rep
Spring is in our future

and it’s in our step
Put all of this behind us
 and write a different poem
Just another small setback
on our long  journey home

The long and straight road

is just around this curve
The hard-fought happiness
that we all deserve…

Autumn

leaves

Autumn

Leaves piled beneath a wind worn oak
An endless view from where I stand
My sigh, evident in the crispness of the day
The peculiar pleasure of rake in hand

The lingering urge to leap into the fray
Same fresh exuberance of when I was a boy
Knowing, that a hardy bowl of soup awaits
Reward, for doing what I secretly enjoy

More than enough work for my mind to wander
To ruminate, about this unique time of year
To soak in the scenery all around me
To gather my thoughts as night draws near.

A singular spirit that is uniquely autumn

Sights, and smells, that awaken the senses
Fields lined with every shade of the season
Yellows bursting through hillside fences

Glistening between the shadows
The eventual arrival of sun‘s first light
Rising graciously to greet the horizon
Colours that never seem so bright

Autumn 1

A harvest of many luminous hues
Of fiery orange and peach gold
The great art of our autumn
Blazing red in a scarlet bold

Musky bouquets that fill your nose
Arrows of geese in a unison of shrill
Maples, cloaked in a blanket of now
Sunny days that belie the chill

As October’s splendor slowly unfurls

The breeze provides what spring needs
While colours dance, and then embrace
Nature plants her yearly seeds

Trees, baring themselves to the elements
Leaves, drifting to the morning frost
Slowly dying, yet fragrant still
Paying their annual recurrent cost

With the sharp bite of November winds
A steady sway, and the boughs splinter
The crisp breath of autumn hastened
By the gasp of approaching winter

IMG_20141101_143311[1]

The snap of broken branches underfoot
Kindling, for an awaiting flame
Brisk nights, with the whiff of fire
Warm clothes that smell the same

The clarity of the evening sky
Then black and abrupt, as night falls
Stars aligned, on a moonlit canvas
An air of promise that darkness calls

Autumn sings with resounding refrain
Saying good-bye, with a flashy final show
A spectacular display of fall boldness
Before the barren white of silent snow

Todays leaves are bagged and set aside

The colours faint, under that same moon
The cold days of December approach
But tomorrow will echo today’s tune.
