Veil

Veil

Ice recedes from the shoreline
Exposing sand and rockIMG_20150421_113714[1]
Shallow depths revealed
In the absence of the dock
It is nature’s progression

As natural as can be
Without the obstruction
Clear, for all to see

Unveiling the spring
The sun’s annual task
Shedding its icy skin
Removing winter’s mask

IMG_20150421_121318[1]

So much can be missed
By concealing what is real
Be emotionally available
Revealing how you feel
Like a curtain slightly open
A door, partially closed
A layer of obstruction

Your self, unexposed

Veiled from the truth
Seldom taken to task
 Pull away the pretense
Take off your mask

The sun patiently waits
Dependant on the breezeIMG_20140921_105649[1]
Clouds riding the wind
Inhibiting what it sees
Wanting to see the world
Staring down from the blue
An unobstructed look
The warmth of the view

An unveiled perspective
All the sun can ask
Truly down-to-earth
Life beyond the mask

IMG_20150421_114113[1]It reaches for your limits
Looking to take hold
Never shy or unassuming
Persistent, and bold
Shoulders to fingertips
Stabbing, jabbing its way
Obstructed by this agony
A pall on another day

Veiled in this existence
Relief inside the flask
The potion of the pills
The substance of your mask

An unobstructed glimpse
Not too much to ask
Removing your veil
An unenviable task

                                                                                                                       Find it in yourself
                                                                                                                        Life without the

mask

Infringement

         Infringement

Ideas float through the air
It’s a new age, once again
Some of them will never return
Cyberspace… is free reign

There is no concept copyright
Too sad if ethics are missed
Too bad re: common decency
Not tangible… doesn’t exist

Who cares where it came from
What was written, what was read
Just erase the trail of evidence
Then it’s he said… vs. he said

IMG_20150324_113643[1]

However…
It can feel like a very small town
When that certain line gets crossed
The respect that you have gathered
Is compromised… and then it’s lost

It goes around and it comes around
Word will get out when it’s spread
Thought you already had problems?
Add this… to the mess in your head

We are both aware of the facts
And at least one of us cares
The one who will close his book
Reconsider… with whom he shares

It’s just a matter of talk and time
Your transparent cover will be blown
Guilty in the court of public opinion
Close the laptop… pick up the phone

There is a compromise to be had
Save face, lest the truth be known
A chance for you to make amends
To own up… to what you don’t own

 Whirlwind

IMG_20150127_111336[1]

Caught in a whirlwind.
Engulfed by life.

So many questions
I cannot address
So many people
I cannot impress
Wanting the most
but giving less
A pathetic pawn
in a game of chess

Consumed by realities
in this daily race
Spinning around me
while I stand in place
My mind on a swivel
at a frantic pace
Spending valuable time
to just save face

IMG_20150127_111505[1]
Skewed by the hurry.
Consumed by
 change.

A shot of humility
straight to the brain
A shot of adrenalin

vain to vein
The speed of truth
the bite of pain
As much to prove
as there is to gain

Refocus to realities

just a minor dip
Broaden these shoulders
and remove the chip
On life’s vast radar
just a minor blip
I will assume the helm
and right this ship

HEAR

HEAR

It’s about trust

Take me on my word.
Have I ever lied to you?

No lines for you
to read between.
I mean everything
that I say
I say everything
that I mean

It’s about space

It is okay to need solitude.
Can I be alone with my thoughts?

No other way for me
to figure it out.
Sometimes it is about
just me
And just me
that it’s all about

It’s about clarity

I know how I am feeling.
What reason would I have to lie?

No hidden agenda for you
to uncover.
I did love her
back then
But then
I didn’t love her

IMG_20141208_114246[1]

It’s about time

Every day adds to what has passed.
Why can’t you let it go too?

No reasons for you
to not move on.
Been gone for
so long
That it is
so long gone

It is about now

We have to trust in the big picture.
Put space between us and the past.

No words that I say
can make it more clear.
Here and now is the
time for you
And now is the time
for you to hear

Faith

Faith Books
FAITH

I watch intently as the representative speaks
Certain, as he, that he lives by every word
I look around to find the faces of that same belief
It’s the story that binds them in what they’ve heard

We are here to celebrate in the eyes of their maker
We are here to join two good people as man and wife
To put a righteous stamp on their first page together
To share guidance and guidelines for the rest of their life

We are here to say good-bye to the dearly departed
The volunteer, the neighbour, the follower, the friend
So easy to find solace and comfort in their collective loss
After they hear of the peace she had found near the end

I smile for those who have found their own way
And I feel for the ones who think they must follow
I worry for the those neither here nor there
And I fear for the ones with a faith so hollow

Faith comes from the truth and the need to know
We don’t require a symbol for who we should be
Draw upon the best you see in yourself and others
Have faith in your choice, and choose to believe

The words one subscribes to can define who we are
The righteous indignation that is found in a book
We should choose to learn more about good than evil
Search for more of the positive, wherever we look

Why can’t believers follow the peace they entrust
Why can’t those people use their passive voice
No where does it say that faith and war should collide
It isn’t so written in their document of choice

I smile for those who have found their way
And I feel for the ones who think they are lost
I worry for the those neither here nor there
And I fear for the ones whose faith has a cost

I find my inner peace on level ground
A foundation of family that helps me to cope
Inherent building blocks of a lifetime so far
A life that I balance with  faith and hope

Never have I ever considered drastic measures
Even through the depths of my lowest of lows
Seasons change and people pass by like a breeze
Our lives are cyclical and that’s just how it goes

Whenever I ask myself Why me? or Why them?
When life brings me down and when times are tough
I can find my own faith in those whom I love
In family and friends, I find faith enough

I smile with those who have found the way
And I feel for those who still don’t know
I worry for the those neither here nor there
And I fear for the ones too stubborn to grow

My faith comes from the truth and my need to know
I don’t require a symbol for who I should be
I draw upon the best I see in myself and others
I have faith in my choice, and I believe in me

STORIES

Let’s talk about “ this one thing that happened”.

We all have our stories
and they are shaped
by how we tell them.

Truth, and fiction

Resonant, and relevant

Memory and interpretation

We say what we filter
and we reveal our view
by what we’ve chosen.

Anything, or everything

Reserve, and unburden

Shame and pride

We turn the camera around
and tighten the focus
by pointing it at ourselves.

Observe, and record

Comment, and document

Impulse and exploration

We learn about the possibilities
and everyone plays a role
by being part of the story.

Expose, and suppose

Infusion, and confusion

Tact and responsibility

We leave scrutiny out there
and open for discussion
by inviting judgement.

Audience, and storyteller

Perceive, and deceive

Truth and fiction.

All about “ this one thing that happened”.

Matters

Restless pursuit this need to run
down streets of fire and rain
back alleys of joy and pain
away from the eyes of yesterday
to where it’s only this day that
matters

Happy and safe and satisfied          Tells me exactly why she feels

Rests her head above my heart       Grips my arm to keep me near
Pretty and kind and genuine             Simple sense should be enough
Pure measure to her responses        Obviously sure in her sensuality

To nurture is my nature                 Have settled into this calm before
Same quiet comfort condition       An air of duality peaceful and familiar
How to detach is my dilemma       Never wishing to affect or afflict
Needing to leave circumstance at full speed and join the chase to where I belong

No right escape from this situation
spiral stairway to solid ground
twisting path from lost to found
away from the arms of yesterday
to where it’s only this way that
matters

Time and space and in between         Barely standing on shaky legs
Misunderstood meandering man       Looking for the straight answer
Accepting and expecting and free      Open to possibilities and change
Uncertain of which way to turn            Divided with my head in the clouds

To settle has been my pattern           An ego fed love I can never return
Boundless bravado housed inside    A shadow beside my former self
To pursue is what I’ve got to do          Releasing the will to grasp at chance
Needing to motivate my willing legs and take purposeful strides toward fulfillment

I want to take her hand and run
down streets of fire and rain
back alleys of joy and pain
away from the eyes of yesterday
to where I can have my say in what
matters

Exciting and vital and full of life            Challenging my every need to know

Chasing her essence lost in a trance     I see so much living behind her eyes
Radiant and bright and so aware           Yet suspended in a well of reserve
She shines a light in my search               Love lost places that I hope to find

To burst out through an open door          Releasing the passion that controls me
Carrying all the devotion I have to give    Leaving behind this tormented soul
To swiftly scoop her up on my way            Imagining a path to where we belong
Confident in knowing this is right and completely prepared to sprint into the sun

I have to take her hand and run

down streets of fire and rain
back alleys of joy and pain
away from the eyes of yesterday
to where it’s only today that
matters

Unsaid

Those you love deserve to know
and holding back can only hurt.
Why would we want to live that way?
Trapped in a shallow pit of emotion
Choosing to keep all of it inside
Until one day you find that it is too late
And the life you missed has passed you by.

So much to enjoy in this world
and holding back can only hurt.
Why would we want to miss any of it?
The people and places and the faces
Opportunity to experience this adventure
Solitary choices with a multitude of results
And the chance to grab onto this life.

Life is lined with feelings and emotions
and holding back can only hurt.
Why would we want to keep them hidden?
The true senses of love and of hope and pain
Your immediate gut responses to life’s beauty
Honest expressions of what’s inside
And the innate reactions we should share.

There is so much to be thankful for
and holding back can only hurt.
Why would we leave anything unsaid?
Whenever a trickle of truth brings it out
The smallest of things or moments of knowing
Hold their attention and let them hear it
And the strength of your words will resonate.
